I was a sophomore in high school when this album came out. I loved "Now The Bitter.." When I played the album for my friends they thought it was the really "cool" song on the album and asked why it...
Does anyone remember a Sullivan show that was a special episode called "The Swinging Soulful Sixties?" It aired after Diana left the group and featured a lengthy segment highlighting The Supremes...
On the pop charts, Forever Came Today went #13 Cashbox and #15 Record World. Some Things You Never Get Used To went #22 Cashbox and #21 Record World. Even if they had gotten that high in Billboard...
I thought this topic came up before. This is what I have for the solo albums. I've heard most but not all of these. If I've overlooked anything, feel free to include them.
DIANA ROSS: Reach Out...
I mentioned in another post, I thought it was very odd. They either closed with "Someday" or "Impossible Dream". The only night they did both was the final performance. In one of the performances...
"Didn't We" was performed at every taped performance from the Frontier. Most of the songs were. The only numbers that were either in or out were "You're Nobody Till Somebody Loves You," "It's Alright...
An Evening With Diana Ross at the Palace is the first time I saw her as a soloist in concert. When she dropped the white/screen dress and launched into The Lady Is A Tramp, I was thrilled. I had...
I don't think they are over. But there always seems to be one more bridge to cross.
No other hits. And surprisingly some nights they didn't do "Love Child" or "Someday We'll Be Together!" But all the show tunes stayed in. I'd think at that point even a Vegas audience would want to...
I can only tell you what is on the tapes and there is no piecing together. I love Deke dearly and don't want to contradict him. Sometimes stories get embellished or memories become fuzzy over the...
I thought I'd shed a little light on this LP, not necessarily the cover which I know was the original topic.
I might have mentioned this before. Everything on the Farewell album is from the farewell...
This is an interesting thread. It's amazing how someone's favorite is unlistenable to another. Numerically, "My Mistake" was planned as the first single. I think it would have gone top 10 and is...
I have a quick story about this song. I didn't think it would mean anything to anyone but me but maybe I'm wrong. I was once with Mary in a club and the Righteous Brothers version was playing. Mary...
I might be in the minority here, but I think even if Florence and HDH had stayed and the name hadn't been changed, there would have been a natural "slow down." How many really maintain the kind of...
Only Diana, Mary and Florence on this track.
I think there's a good chance we'll get it. Check back in 2042. :-)
The tracks from Floy Joy on Mary's Anthology are unedited and we added no additional breaks. That's how they were recorded. An expanded Floy Joy album would be great.
Mary and Cindy are definitely in the background on "If You Let Me Baby." But there are one or two other voices. Sometimes I think it's Jean but honestly I'm not 100 percent sure.
A few answers. First, I'm loving the response! Thank you.
The extra voice you hear on "If You Let Me Baby" is Mary's. It's a second vocal take and I thought it would sound good to double her in...
Now the bitter, now the sweet... In 1986 I knocked on Miss Ross's dressing room door in Vegas then very foolishly walked right in without waiting for a response. She was laying on her sofa and...
Don't get too excited. The longer Midnight Dancer contains no new info. It just goes on for another three and a half minutes at the end. The back up singers repeating the chorus and Mary ad-libbing....
Midnight Dancer is actually over six minutes long. They faded just after 3 minutes for the album and single. And yes, it's surprising they didn't use the full version on the 12". Similar with some...
