New York's "Bila" is an all-time Doo Wop classic, all about a dance at the time.."c'mon everybody now Bila", Step One, Step 2 now, Bila"
love her duet with Smokey "If I Were A Bell"
"I Guess I'll Always Love You" - Isleys and "Since You've Been Gone" - Tops for me for drums at the start, and nothing will ever beat The Miracles "Going To A Go-Go" for drums at the intro.
It's odd, because when we had them on my tv special - they insisted GC be part of the group. He also covered for John's parts as John had taken ill a short time before the taping.
So sad - on Motown, they were one opf my all time favorites [[and on Tri-Phi too)....but we still have the great John Edwards with us, though he can't perform anymore.
"Working My Way Back To You"...
Is "Happy Landing" in stereo somewhere? I should know - but drawing a blank this morning....
I'm still waiting for the yet to be released "Greatest Hits From The Beginning" stereo and mono versions!
Everything Is Good About You
and off course Back In My Arms Again
Mary Wilson was a host for me of many tv specials. As Jerry Butler decided to retire from his hosting, Mary was my choice to be the next host. I knew her very well as many of the Motown artists I've...
The Andantes were on the majority of the Supremes record from "SITNOL" forward. They were also on The Miracles tunes such as "Going To A Go-Go" and "Mickey's Monkey", a bunch of Marvin Gaye tunes,...
Harvey's "Anyway You Wanta" was re-cut at "Monkey Lupe-Lu" and it's pretty wild - same backing track.
Would I Love You - The Mighty Miracles
the prettiest of them all to me [[and my bride - our wedding song)
...and then there's.....the Cameo Parkway cover of "In My Lonely Room", which they called "the 81" by Candy & The Kisses to nearly the same track as Martha's original.
"All I Need Is Your Good, Good Lovin' - loved the blossoms and the Appalas too.
Get's no better than "Soul City Walk-in' " two steps forward, two-steps back!
back in the heyday of Oldies radio, WOGL In Philly was the best - all the Philly Motown hits were in heavy rotation [[Would I Love You, Third Finger, Left Hand, It's A Good Feeling I'll Turn To...
He was also one of my all time favorite co-hosts of our "Soul Spectacular" show. An amazing guy to work with and so cool!...talking' about Shaft, RIP Richard - the best!
I always loved this and get many requests to play it on my radio shows - such a touching tribute to The Miracles.
How about Tina Britt's "The Real Thing"? Always wondered how H-D-H felt about this song, which is a dance floor stomper to this day?
"If I Ever Lose This Heaven" - classic
The bells on The Supremes "Everything Is Good About You" are sublime
I seem to remember [[when I edited the episodes we did for PBS syndication) we had a longer cut of one of their medley's that included "Everything Is Good About You"?
The clip is from the Hy Lit show in Philly - a huge Motown market back in the day.
Hi - yeah, it's was very odd how the Paris Sisters got on the show. We were using a payroll company in LA. The person handling the payments said ya know I used to sing - and that was Albeth. It was...
