He is in my prayers. My condolences to his family.
RIP Al Abrams
Unfortunately I too got the feed on Facebook....
Rest in peace Al . A sincere THANKS for all that you did
I was talking to this dear man last night about a book proposal. I'll make a post about it later, I'm just in total shock
A sad day. Our fellow SDF member 'stalebagel' has sent his last post to us.
Al shared the same birth date, February 19th, with Smokey Robinson and Bobby Rogers, but was born one year later, in 1941.
Al and I had a slight disagreement over the Tommy Good compilation but do you know once that was cleared he was one of the nicest guys I ever 'met' to the point of personally sending me a signed copy of his book - something I will treasure.
Very sad news. RIP Mr. Abrams.
An article on Al's death in the Detroit Free Press:

Wow! That's a shock. Hope he died peacefully. Just goes to show you you never know when it's your time... RIP.
Very sad news, indeed.

Wow, just read the Detroit Free Press article. Only 74 and diagnosed with cancer three weeks prior! Wow! He also must've known his time would be up to making obituary plans as soon as he got the diagnosis.
What a trooper though. To be there as a teenage Jewish young man helping to make music and civil rights history. What a pioneer.
Suzi's a great Detroit girl.....;)

Sorry to hear this. Al was a stand-up guy,
Very sorry to hear this. Al was enormous help with my book, both before and after publication. RIP Al.
A true pioneer and all around nice person.

I was away from a computer for a day and received an email from a forum member which mentioned something about Al that I didn't understand. Since I have returned home it dawned on me something was wrong and went directly to my computer and learned about Al.
So very sorry to learn this. Al was a true pioneer in the music business. I last saw him at the Motown Gold Card ceremony last April. We had a chance to visit a few moments. He will be missed.
...that's very sad news indeed ...a couple of years ago I was able to locate a few songs he had co-wrote decades ago ...which made him very happy ...God bless him :)
Al Abrams' passing is very sad indeed. He had the grace to share his many memories with music fans and thankfully he was able to publish a book. He lived a full life and the measure of a person is how they are fondly remembered, as the posts above attest to. There is some justice that as the ultimate publicity promoter, he was given the gift of time to prepare his own obituary. Though I never knew Al personally, I wish to offer my condolences to his family and friends. Attachment 10184
May God take Mr Abrams straight to home.

Al was a personal friend of mine and I will miss him forever.

I am a bit taken back ---
unexpected ==
My sympathy to the family that's all.
. I've just received news that Al Abrams had died.Like many others my heart is broken. We all who love good music, Singers, musicians, writers and most Important of all just people who love music, have lost one of the best of us.
Al was more like family than friend. I feel privilaged to have had him and Nancy in the audience this past summer. he stayed the whole night and I was able to sing some Motown, Some blues and Standards for him, I'm grateful for that. He was a very giving and knowledgable man. He used a picture of me for the cover of his great book " Hype and Soul " when he easily could have used one of the many Motown stars. He told me " It was thr right picture to use " With Al it was always about getting the facts and words right. Man! did he love his music. God bless Al and his family.
Here a great pic I've had in my collection of some real Detroit Originals! Billy Johnson, Al Abrams, JJ Little Willie John, Berry Gordy, Jackie Wilson and Robert Bateman!
