She's been here before! Dee Dee is one of my best, if not the best, friends. I am constantly in touch with her. Visit her website: www.deedeesharp.com
I love Dee Dee because the girl can sang and I remember her from elementary & Jr high school. I was in her younger brother, Roy and her cousin Saundra's class. She was quite popular and was always being called on to sing and to star in plays. She was from a part of North Philly called the Village which was right next door to my hood.
I saw Dee Dee in 2009 and told her I was forum mates with Randy [[I pronounced his last name as Roosi) and she corrected me and said it was Russi with a short u sound. Go girl!
OMG, I just figured it out! She looks like my cousin Bonnie especially how she moves her mouth. My cousin is pretty btw.
Great story Nosey and thanks. I'm not originally from Philly but I did live in West Philly and out in the burbs near King of Prussia/Valley Forge. I know North Philly somewhat and South Philly too much! LOL!
Anyway, Dee Dee always had a unique look, beautiful to me. I know she is a natural when it comes to singing because she can sing just about any genre with ease!
She is a national treasure in my opinion and should be recognized more. I have met many legends and I REALLY would like to meet Dee Dee one day if only to tell her how much her singing has been a part of the soundtrack of my life.
Marv
Here Dee Dee sings "Steady, Steady" in this classic clip from the Ed Sullivan Show from early 1964 I believe [[the broadcast in color begining with the 1965 season)

Then this incredible woman comes back in the 70's, 1977 to be exact and knocks them out on Soul Train! "Nobody Could Take Your Place" Go Dee Dee :

Those sixties clips make my day. She was as much fun to watch as to hear...
What's up with that? No close up? I hope Dee Dee got paid when she and Kenny Gamble divorced as I believe he quashed her efforts on being bigger than what she was.
Dee Dee Sharp can sing the phone book & make it GREAT!A very underrated entertainer, better then any of the big shots.Yes, being married to Gamble did not help her career. It was her finances that BUILT Philly International & its predessors[[Gamble & Neptune).Besides being an extrodinary talent she is a beautiful person insiide & out.She is like a close cousin to me & Randy. My Mom & Dad think the World of her.
This is my favorite of hers, Marv... great performance here!!!

Jill....wow! How did you find that?! No just thank you! Totally grade A performance. Thank you Jill.
Dee Dee's vocals are always clear and strong. You hear and understand all the lyrics, then she wraps them in her own soulful style and voila! You have something you can listen with pleasure for years and years!!!!!
marv2, Dee Dee sends a BIG "Thank You"!
Dee Dee Sharp was exactly that a fine, sharp good- looking babe with those big legs. Mel Carter says he tried to get her. He said he begged like Spike Lee: "Please,, Baby Please." She had a voice too. Her baby and mashed potato songs only hinted at what she could do.I liked songs like Rock Me In the Cradle of Love, I Really Love You, Baby I Love You and What Kind Of Lady. Her voice would just explode and rise to such a joyous pitch and tone. When she comes in on Let's Clean Up the Ghetto. The song just takes off in my opinion.
Dee Dee once dated David Ruffin and was engaged to Muhammad Ali in the 60's. She was all that........!
Dee Dee was awesome from day one! Give me "Mashed Potato Time" to her last Philly album, I loved it all...
Here at 7:55 is a short clip of Dee Dee cracking a joke on Dick Clark's 1979 TV special:
