We say goodbye to a Legend! Songwriter/Producer, Legend of Motown and Pioneer for women in the music industry and more.. Sylvia Moy has Passed. I know this will come as a shock to many of you and I am sorry for you as well. Myself as well as much of the Moy family are going through a very rough time as you can imagine. Arrangements will be posted as they are made. Thank you all in advance for any kind words and prayer for they are needed and will be well received. I myself am not doing well so if I don't get right back to some please understand. Thank you
Sad News indeed.
When I was planning my visit to Detroit some years ago, I wrote to Sylvia Moy at the address given to me by a friend who had been in recent contact.
Unfortunately, I did not receive a reply before my visit.
Several months later, I received a letter from her, noting the fact that she had read it and was aware that I had been to visit Hitsville and Detroit, and she was sorry to have missed the chance to meet. She said that if I was to return, I should contact her again.
Her letter was on her own personal stationery, with the top of the page bearing musical notes/scales.
As I cannot read music, I had a friend 'translate' for me.
From the 'tune' he supplied, it was clear that it was the opening bars to "My Cherie Amour".
RIP Sylvia Moy..thanks for many wonderful Motown tunes.
Yes indeed, thank you Sylvia, for sharing your talent and creating such wonderful music, which is still enjoyed half a century later.
It can't always have been so easy for her, being female among all those male songwriters at Motown in the 60's.....
Rest In Peace Sylvia Moy. Thank you for the music.
From the Detroit Free Press. Includes some video interviews.
