I am currently working on an article to be published later this year on my website and in the (Motown) "Chatbusters" magazine. The subject is the "pre-history" of the Temptations, ca 1955-1962 which when finished, will run to around 7-8 well-filled pages, with several previously-unseen photos and cuttings to add the final touch. (I now have two 1962 Michigan Chronicle ads announcing the Temptations at the Rage Showbar, and another from the very same same night showing "Richard Street & the Distants" at Chappie's Lounge.)

I don't know if anyone here can assist me in my quest to make contact with Richard Street, as his input on the "Distants" days would be invaluable, and resolve more than a few mysteries.
His involvement would certainly help me fill in some gaps in the story, and possibly answer some of the unresolved questions about the very confused and contradictory 1960-1961 period.

In my perusal of the Michigan Chronicle files, I came across an ad for the Phelps Lounge, dated Sept. 1962, which advertised The Temptations as part of the club's 2nd anniversary party.

Thanks for the message - I have this cutting too (thanks to Graham!) I only highlighted the two April ads as they help to dispel the myth that the Distants disappeared forever when the Temptations formed. As yet, I have still to discover who Richard was singing with - one question I'd dearly like to ask him.
