Mel - I have the names of the 5 girls somewhere - from a clip in the Michigan Chronicle. I never did manage to trace any of them though. I think the group was named from the surname of one member - Sharp.
They also had a 45 on the (Detroit) Permahit label - another song produced by Henry Smith.
I asked Major Reynolds - who I think has the publishing (Devotion) - but he didn't know anything about the group.

I believe 2 of them were sisters. I know one of N High School, her name was Sherry Chambers. Haven't heard anything from them. Maybe KevGo can give U more Nfo... or SisDetroit...

That's right Medusa - but I think the correct spelling is Cheri.
The group included her sister, Diana, plus another set of sisters; Deborah and Karen Wingfield, along with Sharon Morris. My guess is it was SHARon who gave them the name The Sharpetts. Just a guess. The Wingfield and Chambers sisters were cousins, and also cousins to the Ruffin brothers.
They all seemed to have gone to Pershing High School, with Sharon being a year or so older than the others. The clip I have said she previously recorded with another group - but doesn't say which one.
Does anyone know where they are now? I'd love to interview them.
