Does anyone out there know of a girl group they may have seen that SHOULD have really made it that the rest of us might not have known about? Something along the line of The Supremes in terms of looks, voice and class.

During my Years at Detroits Pershing High School with the Dramatics and Enchantment,Floaters etc. there was a girl group who called themselves 'The Sharpettes'. One of their songs was titled "Lost In A World Of A Dream".
Stu, Gwen Owens also went 2 Detroits Pershing High School.
The 'Vinson' Sisters (also Pershing High Schoolers), they backed up Tony Olando & Dawn and a lot of other Singers.
What about the Ridgeway Sisters (also back up a lot 4 Aretha)?

Pretty In Pink / A group of talented young ladies lead by Chaka Khan's daughter, Milini. They had one CD release on Motown in 1991. Group disbanded shortly thereafter.

Shades / Another excellent girl group. Very attractive ladies with tight harmony and strong vocals on Motown who had one CD release in 1997. They were around during Andre Harrell's tenure at Motown which might explain why they never got the push or went far. Andre Harrell nearly ruined Motown with his poor management and tremendous ego.

Sweet Obsession / Three blood sisters whose last name was Green. Released two strong albums on the Epic label in the late 80's-early 90's. Again no promotion.

I liked Perri and thought they had enough musically to hang in there.
Specially as I seem to recall they worked/toured with Anita Baker(I'm open to correction there) and I thought that would keep 'em solvent and able to make more than the 2 cd's that I'm aware of ----- actually,I don't know if the first album made cd,I only have vinyl.
Anybody else liked Perri?
Des

I have 2 agree on High Energy and Perri.
Didn't Perri get their start with Pat Metheny?
Or I could B mistaken.

Top of pageBottom of page   By Des (81.152.91.76) on Monday, August 04, 2003 - 09:25 pm:

Med
As far as I recall from their first album(locked away so can't view the sleeve),I think Pat Metheny wrote a sleevenote complimenting Perri on adding lyrics to a coupla his choons.I recall there's at least one Metheny composition on the first album.

I just listen to Perri's verson of I Don't Wanna Loose Your Love" the other day. I think too much maddness go on with the girl-groups.ie EnVouge can't seem to get their act together to reunite

The Cover Girls, Expose, Company B, The Flirts, Sweet Sensation.....as good as these groups may (or may not have been) all suffered due to constant line-up changes.....and Mary Wilson thought she had an employment agency going...hmmm. Do male groups have this revolving door and "can't get it together to re-unite" thing going on, too?

Top of pageBottom of page   By stephanie (64.63.221.130) on Tuesday, August 05, 2003 - 05:43 pm:

I thought the Good Girls were good role models and Expose should have been around a lot longer they were better than Bananarama!!! KUDOS to those on this thread who named the Royalettes they had class and had the sound and of course the great Teddy Randazzo....they sounded like Little Anthony and the Imperials on their orchestration and I guess thats natural because they had him too!!! Royalettes should have been almost as big as the Supremes or the Marvelettes or even the Ronettes I think they would have done well with Phil Spector if he wasnt using any old studio voices

I thought Expose was really good. They were basically all lead singers, which makes for a great girl group sound! I think the Royalettes were a class act. They should have been much bigger. I have their 2 CD'S and listen to them a lot. Does anyone know if they ever played the bigger venues/Las Vegas, etc.?
