To make a long story short, I talked to Smokey's music director on the phone. I got the number to the hotel where they were staying, I felt bad because I woke him up but anyway, he took my name, I asked him if my girls and my friend could come backstage and he said yes. We were sitting there, the last people to greet him and he came up and hugged my friend, my babygirl and then he hugged me and kissed me on the cheek. He signed autographs for all of us even though his roadmanager was trying to rush him. We got about 10 pictures with him. He is sooooo nice, he even talked to my best friend on the phone. She was supposed to go but had a disk removed from her neck 3 weeks ago. I told him that I left a gift for him backstage in Detroit last year and explained to him what it was. He thought about it and said "I did get that, that was you?" "That was so nice, thank you baby". I bought him a gift this time too and also one for the music director. I talked to Marv Tarplin and took a picture with him. All of the people connected with the show, were wonderful, I have met MY FAVORITE ENTERTAINER OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!!!! I have been loving this man for 36 years. I would have never thought I would meet him. I am truly blessed!!!!

Hey MsMusik,
You absolutly correct about the warmest of
Smokey Robinson. I also got a chance to meet my
musical hero at the R&B Foundation Awards
ceremony at the Hammerstein Ballroom in Sept of
2000. Tony's dear friends The Chi-Lites along
with Don Covay, Betty Wright, Johnny Johnson,
The Dells, Gene Chandler, and the great composer
Clyde Otis, were being inducted into R&B hall
of Fame. We laugh and joked and traded wonderful
conversations with some of the greatest musical
people on earth that evening such as Chuck Jackson, Maxine Brown, Gary U.S Bonds, Ms Ruth
Bowen (of the ledgendary Queens Bookings Agency)
and Freddie Scott. Smokey Robinson was the host
of the gala that evening and after the ceremony
was over, Tony and I went over to congratulate
Eugene Record, who by the way, gave a wonderful
lead performance on his reunion on stage with the
Chi-Lites that evening. After taking pictures
with Bobby Rodgers and Claudette Robinson, Eugene
says to Tony and myself, "Let's go say hello to
Smokey". As we climbed to the top of the stairs,
where the stage was, Smokey looked over at Eugene
and gave the biggest smile and exclaimed, " My brother!". He gave all of us the tightest hug
like we were a member of his immediate family !!
Then afterwards, Tony and I, proceeded to have
a late night breakfast with J Keys (of the Vee-
Jay group "The Maginificents), legendary producer
George Kerr, Chuck Barksdale, Verne Allison,
Mickey McGill, of the Dells, Gene Chandler,
Marshall Thompson (of the Chi-Lites) and Sam
Gooden and Fred Cash of the Impressions. It was
like a dream come true for me !!! The highlight
of the evening for me was meeting my all time
songwriting hero, Mr. Smokey Robinson !! It was
an evening that will forever be etched in my
memory bank forever and ever !!!
