"Duke Of Earl" was also the record that helped Carl Davis get promoted from sales rep. to A&R Director for Columbia/Epic's Okeh label in 1962. He, along with Vee-Jay's Calvin Carter, Chess' Roquel Billy Davis & One-Der-Ful's Andre Williams among others, helped launch the era of Chicago Soul.
