A tribute to Edwin will be held in Manchester Cathedral on the afternoon of 17th August 2003.
Thereafter an evening of his music will be played several miles away in a club in Salford.

DMeikle - Are you going? It should be great. If you go, let me know how you liked the Manchester gospel choir. Marvin Ruffin said Edwin Starr looked out for him when he went to the UK. Nice to know he's going to be on the show:

Unfortunately it is a Sunday afternoon and I would have to take Monday off work which I can't.
It's a 500 mile round trip for me.
I would like to have gone. I'm sure someone will let us know how it goes.

"I have just e-mailed you about the Edwin Starr Manchester Tribute, it takes place on Sunday 17th August, it starts at 4-00pm at the Manchester Cathedral and there will be Canon Paul Denby conducting the service with local soul singer Ben Brierley singing two of Edwins song and Marvin Ruffin singing one The Manchester Adventist choir featuring Urban Voice will also play their part.
Readings and tributes will be done by family and friends of Edwins and we have just had conformation that Andre, Edwin's son, is coming over for the event which is free of charge.
Then in the evening it's over to the Willows Variety Club in Salford Manchester for a soul party where Souled as Seen, a ten piece soul band along with Ben Brierley and soulfinger Dougie James and Marvin Ruffin, will be entertaining the crowds, along with Twisted Wheel d.j. Pete Roberts ex Wigan Casino d.j.'s Brian Rae Russ winstanley, Paul Davis, Ian Dunning, Clarence, Stan Evans and many more.
Fred Fielder from our local radio station will be hosting the evening The tickets for this event are £10-00 with all profits going to local Manchester charities.
I am telling you about this event so that you can pass on how people of the the northwest of England loved and respected the master and his music.
