I have a question for John Lester, who undoubtedly must be the world expert, not to mention #1 fan, of this group. I recognized your post in the customer review section of Amazon.... Which Velvelettes collection would you recommend: "The Very Best Of..." or the import, "Essential Collection", which I noticed contains several extra cuts? I'm going to buy whichever one you say is the best. Thanks.

OK John, I have to admit to a pastime of promoting the Velvelettes!

The US collection (Very Best Of) has 15 tracks plus the Xmas messages and is wonderfully presented with pictures provided by the Velvelettes and Motown Archives.

The UK collection (The Best Of but also referred to as the Essential Collection) has the same basic 15 tracks as on the US collection plus a further 4 never before issued ie a total of 19 tracks. However, the artwork is generic and only shows one picture (showing Sandy, Annette and Cal) because it is budget priced.

So if you are only interested in the recordings, then go for the 19 track UK collection. It ought to be much cheaper too.

Next, you buy yourself a ticket to see them at Liverpool and get it autographed!!!
