Since sexy (to me) doesn't necessarily mean skimpy clothes or bare assets......

Lena Horn (yes...she has recorded in the last 30)
Nancy Wilson
Tammi Terrell (I just loved that woman)
Freda Payne

Style, class, beauty, presence, and just a way that would (to quote Bootsy) "make you feel like a snowball in the summertime, bobba"

Lil Kim is an obvious choice, she's the x and the y in sexy and a freak's dream. Toni Braxton...enuf said.

I would have made other choices had the question been different. But the question asked who I thought was the sexiest. Not who I thought was the most beautiful, most classy, most staturesque or most sophisticated.

I love Nancy Wilson's voice but even when she was younger she never struck me as a sexpot. But, to each his own. Aretha, again, great voice...but give me a break. Freda Payne is beautiful and has a classy, sophisticated look, but she's not "we can handle dis in the car or wherever" sexy.

Tammi and Lena Horne (is she still alive) were sexy but I went for younger stuff and eliminated all 30 and over babes off the bat. This is why I didn't choose Vanity or Janet Jackson or add them to my two excellent choices.

Btw, Britney and Shakira made my honorable mention list.

RD...different strokes for different folks ya know. I ain't mad at ya....it's just that the way some of these women can wrap a lyric around a note is sexxier to me than how brash & overtly sexual others may be or how little they care to wear. As far as "handlin' dis in the car"...3 years of high school ball was 1 too many & if I try to "handle dis in the car"....they'll need the jaws of life to cut me out !! (LOL) But on tha real...you have to admit, Ms. Nancy is champagne and caviar and Lil Kim is a 7 course meal: a six pack & a balogna sandwich !

My own personal 'infatuation' would have to go out to, pass the envelope please....

SADE!

My wife and I saw her live "LOVERS ROCK" performance, at the PALACE OF AUBURN HILLS, on August 19, 2001.

And what an 'eventful' evening PERFORMANCE... that really was!

Naturally, she's sexy, she's beautiful, she's the 'BEST' at what she does, and her style of music, naturally, she's just... SADE!

If the original query meant sexiest voices, I'll go for Candi Staton and Mavis Staples. Are there any records that are sexier than "Do It In The Name of Love" or "Let's Do It Again"?

Phil

Top of pageBottom of page   By SisDetroit (68.42.209.170) on Saturday, February 22, 2003 - 09:39 pm:

MARVIN fine and sexy has lots of votes.

"Distant Lover...What's Goin On." "Here my Dear....Come and Get to This."

Now, you can't beat that for sexy and fine.

Maria Muldaur (sp?) in her Jim Kweskin/early solo phase. There is just something about her voice.......sigh.

Top of pageBottom of page   By LTLFTC (12.210.76.205) on Saturday, February 22, 2003 - 10:24 pm:

Wanda and Katherine from the Marvellettes ; Lynn Mabry ; Baby Washington ; Rosetta Hightower from the Orlons ; whoever sings lead on "Baby Be Mine" by the Jellybeans.
The common thread between these singers is they aren't divas or prone to stereotypical soulful mannerisms/chops or nauseatingly kitten-esque...They're WOMEN , in a straightforward, real-life person-next-door type way who happen to be able to sing some.
If we're just talking sexiest voices , I gotta go along with Phil - especially Mavis but also Candi Staton and Gladys Knight.

Top of pageBottom of page   By Nish (170.224.224.134) on Saturday, February 22, 2003 - 11:10 pm:

Ooh!!! Okay, sexiest male singers -

Marvin Gaye - he had an unbeatable sense of humanity, and his songs present a complicated and vulnerable man. Sis, gotta agree with you... "Distant Lover.." how could you NOT FALL for THAT????

Smokey Robinson - unerring romantic. SO unafraid of his sensitive side!

David Ruffin - the image, the confidence. etc.

Frank Sinatra - he epitomized cool and sexy in a martini w/ olive kind of way! And then, in all those movies like the "Tender Trap," etc., he's so confident and laidback. Very cool!

Sam Cooke - MAN! "Bring It On Home To Me"... CLASSIC. Sets the bar for sexy.

And as far as voices go, ditto on all the above, plus a really long list of high tenors!

Top of pageBottom of page   By Mark Speck (65.56.219.164) on Saturday, February 22, 2003 - 11:53 pm:

Candi Staton
Margie Joseph
Tammi Terrell
Linda Clifford
Tina Turner
Debbie Harry
Pat Benatar
Dale Bozzio from the '80s band Missing Persons
Diana Krall
and probably many more...

Best,

Mark

The makeup artists managed to make Sheryl Crow look bad tonight, too, which takes some doing.

Female - Would have to be in the looks Dept Freda Payne and Mary Wilson in the voice Dept Miss Sylvia Robinson

Male Dept - Has to Be Teddy Pendergrass no male affects me the way he does and Eddie Levert.
In the looks department I cant think of anyone except in his day Boz Scaggs I dont know why OH and Johnny Rivers. When it comes to black males I have to say I had the biggest crush on Michael Jackson until he started chopping away at himself.

Fayette, I think Charo wasn't sexy, she was more like a little joke of female sensuality. I agree on Dorothy Dandridge. And there's something extra sexy in Eartha Kitt's purr. I once saw Paula Kelly pretty close and she was very sensual and beautiful. I think Abbe Lane was a sexy woman, though it's just a childhood memory, I am not sure. Now... the sexiest one in my book was Paula Prentiss. She's still my favorite brunette.
