Between moving house and staying at the paper til 10 because of this Aretha illness thing, I was a little wired yesterday. I'll get to rest after Friday for three days.

At today's newspaper, for a lot of reasons, we don't have the rigorous copy editors looking at every word that we used to have, so reporters are flying without a net. If you ever see a mistake in anyone's copy, call it in (or if it's the News, tell me). It can be corrected in the online edition now so the permanent record is right.

You know it's a matter of quality, as well as quantity -- and you're old school, which is the right kind of copy editor to be, today many of them are just paginating.

The old copy editors at the News used to terrify reporters and triple-check everything -- they're all retired down in Florida.
