How many of y'all remember this...waking up every Saturday morning and after maybe Looney Tunes or Superfriends, School House Rock would come on! I loved all of them, but my favorites were INTERPLANET JANET, INTERJECTIONS, THREE IS A MAGIC NUMBER, ZERO MY HERO, FIGURE 8, VERB THAT'S WHAT'S HAPPENING, BUSY PREPOSITIONS and CONJUNCTION JUNCTION! BTW, get the DVD...it is packed with so much extras plus a brand new short (I'M GONNA SEND YOUR VOTE TO COLLEGE) and some rarities (remember SCOOTER COMPUTER AND MR. CHIPS?) That was, uh, a little after my time I'm afraid to admit. Anyone remember Poopdeck Paul, Jungle Jim or Bill Kennedy showtime? Or evne Robyn Seymour's Swingin' Time? |

Someone at work mentioned something about Jungle Jim not too long ago when we were reminiscing about the good days. |

Greetings to Everyone! I am a newbie, my name is Michelle. I was doing a search on the www looking for some info and stumbled upon this sight! So glad I found it! I remember School House Rock quite vividly as I was a TV junkie back in the day. Mad TV does a hilarious parody of SHR called Public School House Rock, it's quite funny. The funniest one that I have seen so far is the "Three The Magic Number" The kids in this one class have no teacher, so the principal goes out into the city and looks under a vidock (sp?) and finds a wino living there. In order to lure the wino back to the school the principal has a brown paper bag with some wine in it, waving it in front of the wino while walking backwards. Of course the wino follows him and finds himself as the new "subsitoot teech-er" to these kids. (That's how the wino spells this out on the blackboard) He then proceeds to teach them the mutiples of 3. (Sing along to the original one, this is the wino's version) "Three times 1 is negative two" "Three times 2 is eleven-dy" (that cracks me up) "Three times 3 is 96" "Three times 4 is I don't know, that's why God invented calculators" So at the end of his "lesson" one little girls looks into the camera and yells "Damn! We're screwed"! I laughed so hard. Anyhow, glad to be here!!

Hey Lady! Jungle Jim , if you dont know, was a guy who hosted a kids show on, I think- Channel 7 (maybe 9) that had cartoons and such and he dressed up like a Bwana Don kind of character-which reminds me of Bwana Dons show, with the animals and stuff..ah the good old days... |

I remember seeing the Multiplication Rock LP at Bad Records in Detroit. (I believe the LP was on ABC Records label.) My sister thought it would help me learn my math. I must have passed it up in favor of a more grown-up album. I was so glad, though, when the CD series came out years later along and now the dvd's. "Verb!" is one of my favorite songs of them all. The credits in the Grammer Rock CD confirmed to me who the Donny Hathaway soundalike was. (LOL). |

THIS IS WAY BACK IN THE DAY CLASSIC STUFF! I would make it a habit to wake up every Saturday morning at 6am (my daddy would tell me to turn the tv off, because HE said it was too early to watch tv! I DIDN'T THINK SO!) and watch all the old skool cartoons (remember The Hudson Brothers show, Clue Club, Jabberjaw, Land Of The Lost and Tom & Jerry?) and School House Rock would come on and I get real happy! It's so fun to watch, you find yourself singing along and dancing, being careful not to step into your bowl of Froot Loops while you're doing it! MAN I MISS THE OLD DAYS! |

DyvaNaye: I remember borrowing the Multiplication Rock album from the Rochester Public Library when I was a mere lad growing up (it was released on Capitol Records). My faves had to be "Mean Ol' Number Nine" (featuring drummer/singer Grady Tate on the vocals!), "Three Is A Magic Number" and "Figure Eight." The cartoons are stuff of legend, of course! "VERB!", "Conjunction Junction", "The Great American Melting Pot" and "I'm Just A Bill" are more favorites from the Schoolhouse Rock years. Favorite line from "I'm Just A Bill" - "You mean even if Congress all vote 'yes', the President can STILL say 'no'?!? - Yeah, that's called a veto!" Kevin Goins - KevGo |

Those songwriters were so clever with those School House Rock lyrics, weren't they? There are things in them I would "get" only recently. As kids, we heard things with our minds still growing, yet to understand certain concepts. In our adulthood, these short cartoons are still fun to watch and as educational as ever. Whether you are reminded of mathematical solutions or the difference between a subject & a predicate or about the American government or learning how electricity works, SHR are great memory refreshers. I would like to get the new dvds to replace my old vhs ones. I have a couple of the CDs already. |
