In conjunction with the thread 'Cartoons'...what was your favorite food to eat while watching them? Mine was, of course the good old American Pastime 'A bowl of CEREAL"!

I was discussing this topic with a friend this weekend and we were trying to name all the cereal that we could, when I decided to throw this thread up here and let the SDF members handle the case...lol...

I know what cereal I liked, but let me list what I did not for a change:

Sugar Smacks - YUCK! It looked like floating roaches in milk...plah!

Granola Nut - Yul Gibbons could eat it because he as super stong false teeth that could handle it! That cereal could cut the top of your mouth!

Lucky Charms - 'Marshmallows in milk' - plah!

Boo Berry, Count Chocula and Frankenberry -
No, No, No! This cereal 'looked' poisonous! It colored the milk as soon as it 'hit' the milk! It didnt even have to soak! Phooey!

Kaboom - ...well it speaks for itself, dont you think?!

What's your likes and dislikes in breakfast cereal SDF? I also wanna hear from you 'back in the day folk' with your cereal ancedotes...

Have fun!
DyvaNaye

DyvaNaye, you are too much (LOL). I hated Sugar Pops(the yellow puffed cereal that got soggy real quick, if you didn't eat it right away! My mother used to eat it-Yuck!! Super Sugar Crisp was good though, I liked Sugar Bear in his little blue sweater singing,"Can't get enough of that Sugar Crisp, Sugar Crisp." (LOL) Captain Crunch-all of the flavors were good, I actually liked Lucky Charms, but didn't care for Trix! Does anyone remember King Vitamin(Have breakfast with the king), they still sell that, I was shocked. I liked Crazy Cow, which was another cereal that changed the milk to the same color, Dyva, girl that was some good stuff! Do you remember Pink Panther Cornflakes-turned the milk pink, yummy! Rice Crispies and Cherrios- you had to sprinkle 3 or 4 spoons of sugar on it and then as you got to the bottom, all the sugar would be sitting there and you would scrape it with your spoon and eat it! Oh my GOD, it sounds so horrible now, but it sure was good then. There are more, but that's all I could come up with now. Oh, I also liked and still do-the hot cereals!!! Cream of Wheat. Grits(used to eat them with sugar and butter when I was younger, now when I eat them, I may use a litte brown sugar). I've been told that people in the south just ate them with butter!!! Malt-O-Meal. My sister and I used to dip our toast in our hot chocolate- It was good y'all(LOL).

DyvaNaye- I love yo mind, girl! You mentioned Yule Gibbons and not a lot of people remember him!
Remember how he used to walk up to the picnic bench (Hi, I'm Yule Gibbons) and start talking about the cereal. Not long after his commercials aired,he passed away, people were making jokes that he choked on a hickory nut, that was not nice! Thank you for the flashbacks!!!!

Chancellor, how could I forget about Alpha-Bets!!
Also, Apple Jacks was like my favorite. And yes, the cut out records on the back, I remember having the Archie's "Sugar, Sugar", I wonder how much those would be worth, if they were in good condition. It was hard to cut it out, you had to be real careful. Count, yes how I do remember the small boxes of cereal that you used to pour the milk into, those were the good old days!!!

Man,

You guys are coming up with great threads!

Favorites as a kid on 20th & Norris (1970's

Quisp & Quake
Capn Crunch (Does anyone remember the Vanilla Crunch version? Damn it was SWEEEET!)
Super Sugar Crisp (Remember the one with the Orange flavored things? Even SWEEETER)
Wheateena (God I hated that stuff, and my mom would force me to eat it!)

Man so many cereals, not enough time! :-)

D

PS Does anyone also remember the Freakies? It was an actual cereal and they had these little critters that lived in a tree!

Maybe I am crazy! :-)

Charise - 'A mind is a terrible thing to waste'...so I take out some of my thoughts on SDF....lol...thank you for your compliment!

Now for the cereals I did like/love:

Fruit Loops - Toucan Sam 'follow your nose, your only nose, to the fruitiful smell,... AH! kelloggs Fruit Loops!'...lol...

King Vitamin - Cherise, I have an original bag of KV with the real Kings face on it I have saved all these years...lol.... I have it put away in a tin can. Not to mention the original shape of the cereal 'king's crown!'..lol!

Raisin Bran - it took me a minute to warm up to this...(floating roach theory) but darn those raisins were good!

'Cheery -O-E-O's!!! Toasty Oaty O's!!!' (Cheerios) - Chancellor, remember that commercial? The guy yodeling on the mountain? LOL. Ralph, - Enjoy!
(But they dont taste quite as oat-filled as they used to.)

Apple Jacks - these are the SERIOUS JOINT! (yeah I went there... you old head KNOW what Im talkin' about!) LOL. Chancellor, the J5 did a commerical on this one too! A is for apple J is for ...THE JACKSON 5! Then MJ sings: 'Cinnamon Toasty Apple Jacks, you need a good breakfast, that's a fact- Kelloggs Apple Jacks!'...and they would skip past everyone's house giving out the cereal...sigh...I wanna go back to the 70's...(and liking MJ when he was BLACK!)

Captain Crunch with Crunch Berries - Look, quit playing...didnt you hate when your head of household bought the regular CC and not the crunch berries?! ...'It's not on sale this week!' - bah hum bug! LOL.

Trix - 'Trix are for kids and sometimes silly rabbitts...' ...lol...what's with the purple trix corn ball in the cereal now, man?!

Honey Combs - 'Come to the HoneyCombs Hideout, what a way to start the day'....

Corn Flakes - ho- ho- ho! When I discovered how good strawberries and bananas were in this cereal, it became 'the midnight run!'
The 1969 commercial 'New Country corn flakes...cock a doodle doo.... new country corn flakes, just right for you!'... They were in a square dance in the barn...lol...I know YOU remember Chancellor...lol....

Kelloggs FRRRROOOSSSTTTEEEDDDD Flakes! - Tony the tiger, what a flash back....remember his son, Tony Jr.?

Yeah Charise, Sugar Pops would sog too fast. Hated it! But they were the JOINT back then. Just like Corn Flakes, as soon as you pour that milk, you better get to runnin' before that sucker sogged! LOL!

more later...

That would be my request when I did not want to eat a meal! God Bless her, she can still throw DOWN on a pot of Farina! you know what?... let me call my mom and let her know Im coming over for dinner...shoo....

DyvaNaye, I was trying my best to think of Honeycombs and it just would not come to me, see, I told you your mind is something else! (LOL). I loved that cereal. If GOD let us, I swear I would go back to the 70's, if only for a day or two! I need to take my vitamins, so that I could get my memory cells going this afternoon. I feel like I am 6 or 7 instead of 39 and sometimes that's a good thing, considering the world we live in today.

I - I
Love -Love

Chex - Chex

I want my MAYPO!!! Nuff said!

Granola: Aah, the 70s health thing. I loved them until I saw 2 bug eyes staring up at me. Then if you read the nutritional info, it had as much fat as lard. But it did have lots of fiber & wood & bug parts & assorted shrapnel to cleanse your colon!

Frankenberry & Count Chocula & their famous duel: "Frankenberry is the super sweet cereal. Count Chocula is the super sweet cereal." Then they came up with those Johnny Come Latelys - Boo Berry & Fruit Brute.

Ah, Quisp & Quake - loved them!

Froot Loops - Loved them!

Life - "Hey Mikey, Juice likes it too"

Corn Flakes with Bananas & Corn Flakes with Strawberries: This was a late 60s, early 70s thing & didn't help those damn flakes from becoming soggy & sinking to the bottom of the bowl, where naturally, it congregated with the sugar, that had sunk to the bottom of the bowl as well.

Captain Crunch & Capt Crunch With Crunchberries: I loved them both. I used to pluck the cruchberries out & eat them. I loved Captain Crunch, but it always left a grimy film on my spoon & a film of grease floating on top of the milk. Yummy, good eating there!

Frosted Mini Wheats: not bad

Shredded Wheat - Loved it with sugar!

Wheatena - Pretty good in the winter!

Cream Of Wheat - loved it, though I could never figure out what the hell the brother on the box was smiling about!

Sugar Crisp: Aah yes good 'ol Sugar Bear. His cereal was so good that in was immortalized in song by none other than New Birth - Got To Get A Knutt..."Can't get enough of that Sugar Crisp".

Cocoa Puffs: I'm was Cookoo for Cocoa Puffs

Sugar Smacks: Great!

Corn Chex: loved it!

Puffed Wheat & Rice: I really loved it!

Lucky Charms: They're always after me Lucky Charms

Trix: Was great. However, that was the longest damn kids soap opera in history. Did he ever get to eat a damn bowl??? Those were some cruel kids, they could have let a rabbit get some Trix...at least once! THOSE CRUEL LITTLE BASTARDS!!!!!!

Rasin Bran (Kelloggs, not Post): man those soggy flakes were great with sugar. The raisins set it all off. I used to pick out the raisins & leave the flakes in the box. And you know what??? There wasn't really 2 scoops of raisins in the box.

Juice: LOL on the Trix...I was thinking the same...'Did that damned Rabbitt ever get to eat the cereal!?' I think he did once and dissapeared or something happened like that...lol..I remember the campaign being ' Help us find the Rabbitt!'...
That was in the late 70's...

Puffed Wheat and Rice - 'Gamin' on ya!' LOL. Those looked like floating 'white roaches'...plah!

Cream of Wheat: Come on Juice, you know EXACTLY why that 'Brother' was smiling on the box...lol...considering the times, he was happy to have a JOB!
Check the dialog: 'Ha ha! yessuh boss! I's on the front of dis here box and I's aimin' to be here a good spell, I reckon! Yessuh! Ole Issac gots it made nah!'

...sure you got it made Issac.....lol...

Cereals on a music board? U all like soulful and other music and some of U all are spending time jotting down your favorite cold cereals? How crayzee is dat? What does that have to do with music? Nada! Personally, I believe that this is really embarrassing to the Bored. It's so bugged-out that one of U, the Juice Man, speaking of breakfast, even mentioned bugs in his cereal.
"Watchout!" this whole file isn't closed down by the S.D.F. administrators. They are very understanding and tolerant of us that are kinda different but isn't asking to name your favorite breakfast cereals really crossing the line? I mean, how could U even ask the question? Worst of all, Boreders, U all mentioned every junk cereal (hello, Lovey Chile, U are so sweet and so are all of your sweet cereals -- except one, tune in) yet left out 3 of the best quality good-4-U breakfast cereals:

* Post "Banana Nut Crunch"
* Post "Cranberry Almond Crunch"
* Post "Maple Pecan Crunch"

Their cousin, Blueberry Morning, was already mentioned by LC. By the way, Boreders, this morning I had Post Grape Nuts with Raisins! It was Grrrrrrrrreat!

Anyway, I'm gonna pass on all dis. Tomorrow, have yourselves a "Strawberry Morning".

Hey STONEWALL!
Sure this has to do with music. All of those great commercial themes. Even Michael & his brothers sang the praises of loving their Alpha-Bits. We all sang along every Saturday morning & who could forget those cardboard records on the cereal boxes. Why sure it has something to do with music

Juice, I never thought of the cereals that way. Gee, the 3 that I mentioned don't have any song! I vaguely remember THE JAX with a cereal song. What I do recall very clearly and with fond memories is drinking and enjoying juice.

Lovey Chile the Cereal Princess:
Honey, based on ALL of the above, I pray that U don't go all the way crayzee b/4 "M-45". U sure like to "Post", if U know what I mean. And what about that cereal for Santa: "Ho! Ho! Ho!"
