It just dawned on me these two musical gneuises have been eligible for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame--am I correct in assuming they have not been inducted? What a travesty tho it doesnt surprise me when u look at the Hall of Fame's track record. |

Jimmy: Neither Dionne or Roberta have been nominated as well as the Marvelettes, Ronettes or the Chantels - and that's a damn crime. Kevin Goins - KevGo |

Jimmy & Kevin, I found out the hard way that with the R&R HOF it's not what you've done it's who you know!! |

Marvelettes, Ronettes & Chantels ARE Rock N Roll...Dionne(early Scepter, yes)but Roberta Flack is MOR(IMHO)no disrespect intended, just that there are alot of other female Soul singers who had big records on the Pop & Rock charts that influenced Rock N Roll. |

OK, here's another question: why aren't ALL the Funks in the R&R HOF? Why only James & Benny? Collectively, they ALL made that sound famous!! It's such a sore spot with me. |

There are plenty of folks from the '50s who should be there... and aren't... |

Moe, You make a valid point regarding the Funks. They were eligible years ago and most certainly belong in the RRHF. |

I saw this special on CourtTV last night called I believe "The Other Side Of Hollywood" hosted by KISS "tonguemeister" Gene Simmons, and it was about artists who got screwed over by the industry and other crooks in the business including Morris Levy and Phil Spector. Speaking of Phil Spector, he is the reason why the Ronettes are not in the R&RHOF because of his bitter court battle with his ex-wife, Ronnie Spector and how she won that royalty settlement against him (in which he has yet to pay her-over $3million dollars). He has written letters to the board of trustees at the Hall suggesting that her group should not be considered for recommendation to be inducted for spiteful reasons. But the current situation that he's in for allegedly murdering that woman last year in his mansion may be a blessing in disguise for Ronnie and her partners, because it may be a good chance that he could do some time in prision for that crime. So his overwhelming influence on the Hall may be coming to an end folks. Keep watching. |

Now my thoughts on the Dionne and Roberta situation. IT'S BEEN LONG OVERDUE! Dionne Warwick-Her career started in the late '50s as a backup singer, went on to collaborate with the legendary duo of Burt Bacharach and Hal David to make chart history with such hits as "Walk On By" and "Do You Know The Way To San Jose" along with many other hits in the '60s, also had many more chart successes including her first #1 hit with The Spinners with "Then Came You" in 1974, made a triumphant comeback in 1979 with Barry Manilow producing hits with "I'll Never Love This Way Again" and "Deja Vu", many more hits with production from the Bee Gees and her second #1 hit with Elton John, Gladys Knight and Stevie Wonder with "That's What Friends Are For" in 1985. Over 25 million albums sold, multi-Grammy Winner. For Roberta Flack: Began her stellar career for Atlantic Records in 1969 with her first #1 hit "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" which also garnered her the first of many Grammy awards throughout her career, collaborated with Donny Hathaway on many hits such as "Where Is The Love" and "The Closer I Get To You", prolific songwriter-producer, over 20 million albums sold, worldwide known and loved. The Rock&Roll Hall Of Fame has an obligation to these two legendary women, and it can start in 2005 with the possible induction into the Hall and finally crown their legendary careers with this honor. |

big daddy says it all. Hall of Fame often goes for singer-songwriter and Miss Flack is both and a producer and is folk-soul-r and b,pop and mor(and some might even say a bit of country and reggae)--that eclecticism alone warrants her induction-----and I love the Supremes who got in there on popularity and talent--well look at Miss Warwick too--her artistry and popularity --her singing on Dont Make Me Over is simply brilliant as on Then Came You to Deja Vu 30 years later. For her to sustain her artisty and popularity thru the 80s and considering the Beatles and Motown, disco and whatever the 80-s were........... |
