Randy....you inquired if Paul is in Miami.. no.. he lives in South Carolina. As you stated.. he wrote the classic 'Personally' that Jackie Moore recorded. One of the great Singer/Songwriters in soul music

Randy, No.. he has been a recluse for a few years..hence I was real pleased I tempted him to do the interview. Mid 90's he had heart problems.. he's fine now...but doesn't want all the hassle again.. as with many other soul artists..they remember all the bad deals they were given from record companies and are wary of making any comebacks. Make sure you get the magazine...due out soon Barry |

Hi everyone, Another lovely ballad penned by Paul Kelly (together with Clarence Reid) is "A Woman Will Do Wrong". Here's a link where you can hear four different versions, all fine in their own way: Go to: http://www.melingo.com/thesoul net/jukebox.htm and scroll down a bit, and you'll find it. All the best, Eva |

Colin, I have the Ann Sexton LP "Loving you, loving me", but I didn't know that "You're gonna miss me" was written by Paul Kelly. I'm sure that he must have written many more.(?) And thanks for the good news about the Ann Sexton CD, I guess we'll talk more about it, in a near future ! |

Yes, A WOMAN WILL DO WRONG is one of Paul's finest compositions--that's why there were so many ver- sions done by some of R&B's finest females-- Helene Smith, Irma Thomas, Dee Dee Sharp--just fabulous recordings |

Eva, Thanks so much for that link! Helene's ver- sion is just fantastic. I had the original 45 out of Miami on the Deep City label credited to Helene Smith with the Rocketeers. I believe they were the band members. Great soul music! I always thought this song could've been done country as well as Jackie Moore's "Personally". Also, for more on Helene Smith check out the Limestone Records website with info. on all the great Florida soul artists. |
