Does anyone out there have any memories of the Mynah Birds at Motown, the lineup consisted of Rick Matthews(later Rick James), Bruce Palmer, and Neil Young! I understand they didn't last very long as a unit.
This must have been an interesting combination to say the least. Folk Rock meets soul & R&B, together with a future funk star.

JL.... This looks like one for you!

From what I understand, they cut at least an album's worth of material. Heaven only knows what that combination might have sounded like...

(Not heavily into Neil Young myself, and he never listens to any of my stuff either.)

It took me ages to find this, I hope you're pleased.....

These were the tracks listed on the Mynah Birds in that article. I have heard the potential VIP 45 but I wasn't struck on it. It wasn't Motown enough for me..and you all know what that means.

Go On And Cry, It's My Time, I Got You (In My Soul), I'll Wait Forever, Little Girl and possibly two others..surprisingly they seem to date back to 1966.

It's teenaged garage rock, with "Ricky Matthews" (AKA Rick James) singing lead, and not much guitar playing from some guy named Neil.

Are we saying that the 'Funks' were not included in these recordings???

I am not sure whether that is good or bad.

Talking of funk, reminds me, I see JB himself is here on May 6!

I should have spelt bad as bad-d-d.

Sorry about that!

John

Sounds like a good reason to leave 'em in the can!

Ritchie....

I really feel that it is important for them to be issued...in good time. People can at least make up their OWN minds.

I've no desire to argue with you! I think "in good time" is a valid proviso. There are undoubtedly hidden gems of more general interest, which will I'm sure be given priority, before venturing into the kind of esoterica which may have limited appeal. I'm sure I have no worries about prioritisation!

I must admit i am slightly disappionted that the band was not given the 'funks' treatment. It would have been an interesting project. However i would still like to listen to the tracks, not just as a soul fan, but as someone who has a genuine interest in 'other' types of music.
