Raye Singleton knows more about Mnotown than anyone. We must find her!!

I have NOT met Miss Ray but I rate her book as one of the best. (So Ralph - you have to aim HIGH with your proposed literary classic!!!)

Andy Rix knows Miss Ray well, along with Eddie Singleton, MIke Ossman and the rest of the family.

Miss Ray sounds like a fun person to have around....and I am sure we will be able to find her....

Eddie Singleton did some recording at Tera Shirma. I didn't really get to know Raye until Motown had re-located to L.A. I had moved to Monterey bt was going down to L.A. a lot because my brother was still at Motown and a lot of friends from the music business were there. Raye had regained control of the Creative Division, and on one of my visits she had a meeting with me.
She told me she still considered me part of the Motown family and if there was something I might like to do we could work something out. Unfortunately she eventually lost her power to the very people I despised in the company and nothing ever came of this meeting. Raye is a real pro and I think it was an unfortunate mistake to replace her. Just another part of the long list that I feel was the demise of Motown as I knew it.

Mike Valvano may know. He told me about helping the Gordys move into 2648 West Grand Boulevard!

I remember hearing that the original recorder, mixer and mikes had been purchased second hand from a local DJ. who had a studio in his basement.

i read somewhere that there may have been some rehearsal/demo action in a garage out the back.

can anyone back this up.

I always understood that the studio had formerly been a photography studio rather than a garage.

There were garages facing the alley so some of them might have been rented and used as rehersal space. There could also have been a garage associated with 2648 at one time. There was enough room for one back where we parked our cars.

Ralph

About Eddie Singleton recording at Tera Shirma. Do you know if he recorded Frances Nero there? Frances told me that, after leaving Motown, Eddie recorded a couple of songs with her and also some with Gino Parks. She remembers in particular a duet with Gino of Marvin & Tammi's 'Your Precious Love'. Wouldn't that have been something!

Ian,
I can't really remember what Singleton recorded. It seems he was in quite a bit for a while. He was a real nice friendly guy. He was well liked by the staff.
